Join the DRUUMM Steering Committee: A Call to Serve Our Beloved UU BIPOC Community

DRUUMM has always been more than an organization—it is a spiritual home, a community of care, and a powerful force for justice within Unitarian Universalism. For many, DRUUMM is the first doorway into UUism or the place we return to when we need sanctuary. We are inviting leaders in our community to move into the next chapter of our collective journey by serving in a leadership role.

As we continue to grow beyond 400 members, our Steering Committee is vital in stewarding our vision and supporting our core staff team. This is an opportunity to deepen your commitment to our multicultural, transformative faith community through meaningful service.

DRUUMM’s Steering Committee meets monthly for 90 minutes, with additional engagement through workgroups, Slack, and an annual retreat. Some Steering Committee members also serve on the Executive Committee, which meets separately monthly.

We are seeking candidates for three leadership roles:

1st Vice-President (3-year term)

A key leadership position, the 1st Vice-President works closely with the President and helps guide the Steering Committee, ensuring smooth leadership transitions and organizational sustainability.

  • Provide visionary leadership and help facilitate Steering Committee and Executive Committee meetings.
  • Support leadership development and prepare to serve as President in the final year of the term.
  • Ensure DRUUMM’s strategic goals are met through strong governance, collaboration, and consensus-building.

General Assembly Coordinator (3-year term)

This role is central to creating a powerful and welcoming DRUUMM presence at the General Assembly, bringing together our community for worship, connection, and action.

  • Lead the planning of DRUUMM Village at GA, ensuring a dynamic hybrid experience for in-person and virtual participants.
  • Build partnerships with Black Lives UU, UU Allies for Racial Equity, and other BIPOC-led UU organizations.
  • Recruit and coordinate speakers, worship leaders, and volunteers to create a spiritually nourishing experience for our community.

UUA Liaison (3-year term) will also be on the ballot this election. This role is nominated by the UUA, and serves as a bridge between DRUUMM and the broader Unitarian Universalist Association, ensuring that the voices and needs of BIPOC UUs are uplifted.

Why Serve?

Serving on the DRUUMM Steering Committee is a sacred act of showing up for our Beloved BIPOC UU community. It is an opportunity to be part of a leadership team that fosters spiritual sustenance, builds connections across generations, and upholds our collective commitment to racial and social justice.

Please complete our DRUUMM SC Interest Survey if you feel called to serve. Our Nominating Committee will follow up with conversations in March and finalize nominations by the end of April. Voting will occur electronically and conclude during our annual meeting at the General Assembly in June.

Let’s move forward together. Join us in shaping the future of DRUUMM and strengthening our UU BIPOC community.

Sincerely,
Michelle Venegas-Matula, Chair
DRUUMM Nominating Committee
