Announcing our 2025 Public Worship Leaders

We are thrilled to announce the extraordinary leaders for our 2025 DRUUMM Public Worship Service. This year, we continue our tradition of powerful, prophetic worship that connects our shared values to the pressing spiritual and political moment. We are honored to welcome Rev. Joan Javier-Duval as our guest preacher and Dr. Jolie Rocke as our musical artist.

Guest Preacher: Rev. Joan Javier-Duval

Rev. Joan Javier-Duval has served as the settled minister of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier (UCM) since April 2016. Prior to that, she was an Intern Minister and then Consulting Minister at the Unitarian Society of Germantown in Philadelphia, PA, and a student chaplain at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. With a background in community and political organizing, Rev. Joan has been a dedicated advocate for social justice, anti-racism, and economic equity. Her leadership continues to inspire congregations across Vermont and New England.

Rev. Joan’s ministry is deeply influenced by her Roman Catholic roots, Unitarian Universalism, progressive Christianity, and engaged Buddhism. As the daughter of Filipino immigrants, she brings a rich cultural perspective to her work in building Beloved Community. She has served on the Steering Committee of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus of DRUUMM and played a significant role in the Vermont Poor People’s Campaign.

Musical Artist: Dr. Jolie Rocke

Dr. Jolie Rocke brings her remarkable vocal artistry and leadership as our 2025 musical artist. A celebrated soprano and native New Yorker, Dr. Rocke has shared the gift of song worldwide for over three decades. She has served as a music teacher, program director, and arts curriculum specialist in both Connecticut and Texas. Her musical expertise and deep connection to community arts have earned her numerous accolades, including the Amistad Center for Art & Culture Spirit of Juneteenth Award in 2014 and recognition by the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame in 2012.

Dr. Rocke holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Connecticut and degrees in Early Childhood Education and Music from Loyola College and the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, respectively. Her voice has uplifted countless hearts, and we are grateful for her presence in this year’s service.

This year’s service will be held on May 15, 2025, featuring Rev. Joan Javier-Duval as preacher and Rev. Christina Shu as liturgist.

We invite you to join us in worship while prioritizing space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We especially encourage our DRUUMM members in multiracial families and White antiracist allies to attend and show solidarity.
